Impoliteness in YouTube comments

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis examines the impoliteness strategies and their lexicogrammatical realisations found in the YouTube comments. The first part of the paper starts with a brief outline of YouTube and online communication. It subsequently focuses on the concepts of register, context of situation, rapport management, and impoliteness and therefore provides a theoretical framework for the discourse analysis. The analysis is held on three levels - analysing the overall context of the interpersonal interaction, distinguishing the types of impoliteness, examining the language used to express the impoliteness. The results show that majority of comments (95%) used face-attacking as rapport threatening behaviour. Most commonly appearing types of impoliteness were insults (66%), accusations (30%), and pointed criticisms (21%). Concerning the lexicogrammar, the impolite comments mostly used the indicative verb mood (83%) and 3rd person (79%). Moreover, 22% of comments contained taboo phrases and swear words.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou strategií nezdvořilosti a jejich lexikogramatických realizací nalezených v YouTube komentářích. První část práce začíná stručným představením internetového serveru YouTube a online komunikace. Následně se zaměřuje na registr, situační kontext, řízení vztahů a nezdvořilost, čímž poskytuje teoretické základy pro diskurzní analýzu. Analýza je provedena na třech úrovních - analýza celkového kontextu mezilidských interakcí, rozlišení jednotlivých druhů nezdvořilosti a zkoumání použitého nezdvořilého jazyka. Analýza korpusu odhalila, že nejčastěji používaným vztah ohrožujícím chováním je útok na osobu (95%). Nejčastěji se objevovanými druhy nezdvořilosti byly urážky (66%), obvinění (30%) a přímá kritika (21%). V oblasti lexikogramatických realizacích bylo zjištěno, že nezdvořilé komentáře používaly v hlavní míře oznamovací slovesný způsob a byly konstruovány ve 3. osobě. Navíc, 22% komentářů používalo vulgarizmy.
