How does someone become a leader?

Abstract:

Ve svém empirickém výzkumu se zaměřuji na malou skupinu lidí, vnitřní vztahy, a především pozice leaderů skupiny. Pomocí tematické analýzy polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s vybranými pěti respondenty odpovídám na výzkumnou otázku: "Jak se rodí leader?". Díky rozsahu rozhovorů zodpovídám i další otázky týkající se očekávaných vlastností leadera, vnímání leadera okolím a nevýhody pozice. Z rozhovorů zjišťuji, že leader by měl být zodpovědný, empatický, kreativní a autoritativní. Oproti tomu v dotazníku se zaměřuji na kladné výběrové preference členů ve zkonstruovaných situacích, za účelem zmapování vztahových sítí mezi respondenty. Novým leaderem bude někdo, kdo má silné vazby k oddílu a baví ho práce s dětmi a má dostatek zkušeností získaných v průběhu jeho členství. Pozice leadera má i své nevýhody a jednou z nich je například nutnost využívat autoritu, která mu automaticky připadá, a s tím skutečnost vzniku určité bariéry mezi ním a ostatními členy. Největší šanci na obsazení pozice leadera má osoba, která má kolem sebe hustou síť přátel a disponuje sociálními dovednostmi.

Abstract:

In my empirical study, I narrow my focus to a small group of individuals, internal relationships, and I especially examine the positions of the group leaders. Using thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with five selected participants, I address the research question: "How is a leader born?". Additionally, due to the depth of the interviews, I also answer other questions regarding the expected characteristics of a leader, the perception of the leader by the environment, and the disadvantages of the position. From the interviews, I find that a leader should be responsible, empathetic, creative, and authoritative. Conversely, in the questionnaire, I focus on the positive selection preferences of members in constructed situations to map the relational networks among respondents. A new leader is identified as someone with strong ties to the group, a passion for working with children, and significant experience gained during their membership. The position of leader has also its disadvantages such as the necessity to use the authority, which is automatically attributed to them. This can create a barrier between the leader and other members. A person who has a dense network of friends and social skills around them has the best chance of filling the position of leader.
