Influence of inoculation of Trametes versicolor and Bacillus subtilis on food waste composting efficiency

Abstract:

Potravinový odpad představuje jeden z globálních problémů lidstva, který vyčerpává přírodní zdroje a negativně ovlivňuje ekonomiku a životní prostředí. Mezi všemi metodami zpracování gastroodpadu je kompostování nejekologičtějším a ekonomicky nejvýhodnějším způsobem, jak nakládat s gastroodpadem. Pro zefektivnění kompostovacího procesu odpadů se běžně používají aditiva. Surovinová skladba kompostu z gastroodpadu má za následek nesprávný průběh kompostovacího procesu, a tudíž není možné pracovat s běžně prodejnými startovacími kulturami mikroorganismů. Nejslibnějším, ale zároveň nejkontroverznějším a v praxi zatím málo používaným způsobem je přídavek bioaditiva. V rámci této práce byl studován účinek bioaditiva, připraveného z houby bílé hniloby Trametes versicolor, která rozkládá lignin, a grampozitivní bakterie Bacillus subtilis, která produkuje lipázu. Kompostování gastroodpadu trvalo 63 dní a inokulace kompostu z gastroodpadu byla provedena 28. dne experimentu na počátku fáze dozrávání. V průběhu procesu řízeného kompostování a fáze dozrávání kompostu byly sledovány změny vlhkosti, pH, měrné elektrické vodivosti, aktivity β-D-glukosidázy, lakázy a lipázy. Bylo zjištěno, že inokulace vybranými mikroorganismy nevyřešila hlavní nevýhody kompostu z gastroodpadu, například nízké pH. Vliv aditiv na vlhkost nelze přesně určit, protože kompostovací zařízení přispělo k odpařování nadměrného množství vody v důsledku hygienizace kompostu. Trametes versicolor a Bacillus subtilis však měly pozitivní vliv na degradaci organické hmoty, což vyplývá z výsledků elektrické vodivosti a enzymatických aktivit.

Abstract:

Food waste is one of global problems of people, depleting natural resources and have a bad effect on the economy and the environment. Among all methods of foodwaste treatment, composting is the most ecological and economically way of gastro-waste utilization. Additives are commonly used to optimize the waste composting process. The initial composition of compost from foodwaste lead to an incorrect proceed in the composting process, therefore it is impossible to work with commercially available starter cultures of microorganisms. The addition of additives is the most promising, but at the same time the most controversial method. In this work, the effect of additives prepared from the white rot fungus Trametes versicolor, which degrades lignin and the gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis, which produces lipase was analyzed. Composting remained 63 days while the compost was inoculated on day 28 of the experiment in the beginning of the maturation phase. During the controlled composting process and the compost maturation phase changes in humidity, pH, electrical conductivity, β-D-glucosidase, laccase and lipase activities were monitored. It was discovered that inoculation of selected microorganisms did not resolve the main disadvantages of compost from foodwaste, such as low pH. The effect of additives on moisture cannot be determined precisely as far as the composting plant has contributed to the expulsion of excess water due to the compost sanitation. However, Trametes versicolor and Bacillus subtilis had a positive effect on the degradation of organic matter, as the results of electrical conductivity and enzymatic activity showed.
