Gender ideology in Slovakia: Anti-gender campaigns in public discourse

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of so-called "anti-gender" campaigns or movements, which relatively recently appeared in the Slovak public discourse. By critical discourse analysis, the author of this thesis looks for the answer to the following question: how is the discourse of "anti-gender" movement in Slovak society produced, formulated and extended. In the theoretical part, the author works with the concept of discourse and its impact on society, the concept of ideology, and the concept of social movements, focusing primarily on the church and church organizations. The analytical part of the work focuses on the identification of used arguments, discursive strategies and the overall rhetorical tactics of the "anti-gender" movement. The analysis is divided into three parts: the level of words and phrases, the level of involved participants, and the level of themes.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá fenoménom tzv. „anti-genderových“ kampaní či hnutí, ktoré sa v pomerne nedávnom období objavili vo verejnom diskurze na Slovensku. Pomocou kritickej diskurzívnej analýzy hľadá odpoveď na otázku akým spôsobom je vytváraný, formulovaný a rozširovaný diskurz tzv. „anti-genderového“ hnutia v slovenskej spoločnosti. V teoretickej rovine pracuje s konceptom diskurzu a jeho vplyvom na spoločnosť, s konceptom ideológie a s konceptom sociálnych hnutí so zameraním predovšetkým na cirkev a cirkevné organizácie. V analytickej časti sa práca zameriava na identifikáciu používaných argumentov, diskurzívnych stratégií, celkovej rétorickej taktiky „anti-genderového“ hnutia. Analýza je rozdelená na tri časti: úroveň slov a slovných spojení, úroveň aktérov a úroveň tém.
