Educational turn in exhibition operation

Abstract:

Hlavní pojící linií této práce, jež se skládá ze čtyř hlavních kapitol, je proměna podoby výstavní instituce v rámci termínu educational turn, a jak na tuto tendenci, která se objevila v polovině 90. let 20. století, pohlíží kurátor. Novým trendem ve výstavním provozu je v současnosti zohlednění pedagogické složky výstavy. S ní souvisí i proměna jednotlivých rolí účastníků, kteří do této problematiky vstupují. V první části práce se věnujeme popisu proměny výstavní instituce v historickém a společenském kontextu všeobecně. Vývoj dělíme na několik období, kdy k nejvíce zásadní změně v našem rámci dochází na konci 18. století. V druhé části rozebíráme termín educational turn v různých rovinách, přičemž odkazujeme k této tendenci v uměleckém prostředí. Vyzdvihujeme myšlenky a publikace několika teoretiků z této oblasti a odkazujeme ke konkrétním projektům. Ve třetí části sledujeme vývoj edukační role výstavní instituce, která se částečně prolíná s druhou hlavní kapitolou. Zmiňujeme zásadní osobnosti související s touto novou rolí a v závěru mapujeme situaci v českém prostředí. V poslední, tedy čtvrté části práce, řešíme problematiku zprostředkování obsahu výstav veřejnosti. Zaměřujeme se na vývoj tohoto zprostředkování a k jakým procesům při nich dochází. Neopomíjíme ani zásadní osobnosti v českém prostředí, které stály u jejího zrodu.

Abstract:

The main connecting line of this work, which consists of four main chapters is the change in the form of the exhibition institution within the term educational turn, and how this tendency, which appeared in the mid-1990s, is viewed by the curator. A new trend in the exhibition operation is currently the consideration of the pedagogical component of the exhibition. It is also related to the transformation of the individual roles of participants entering into the problematics of this subject. In the first part of the work, we describe the transformation of the exhibition institution in the historical and social context in general. We divide the development into several periods, whilst the most fundamental change in our framework occurs in the period of the 19th century. In the second part, we discuss the term educational turn at various levels, referring to this tendency in the artistic environment. We highlight the ideas and publications of several theorists in this field and refer to specific projects. In the third part, we follow the development of the educational role of the exhibition institution, which partially intertwines with the second main chapter. We mention key personalities related to this new role and in the end, we map the situation in the Czech environment. In the last, thus the fourth part of the work, we address the concept of mediating the content of exhibitions to the public. We focus on the development of these mediations and what processes took place during them. We will not forget the fundamental personalities in the Czech environment who were at the birth of this concept.
