The First Enlargement of the European Communities in 1973

Abstract:

Záměrem předkládané bakalářské práce je poskytnout celistvý přehled o vývoji prvního rozšíření Evropských společenství, které je vymezeno podáním prvních žádostí o členství v roce 1961 a vstupem nových členských zemí roku 1973. První část práce se zabývá vývojem britského vztahu ke společenstvím na pozadí jejich zakládání. Druhá část práce se následně zaobírá dvěma neúspěšnými pokusy o rozšíření, které byly ukončeny v letech 1963 a 1967 francouzským vetem britské žádosti. Poslední část práce pojednává o odblokování procesu rozšíření a jeho uskutečnění.

Abstract:

The aim of the presented bachelor thesis is to give a complete overview of the development of the first extension of the European Communities, which is delimited by the submission of the first applications for membership in 1961 and the accession of new member states in 1973. The first part of the thesis deals with the development of the British relation to the Communities on a background of their establishment. The second part of the thesis then deals with two unsuccessful attempts to extension, terminated in 1963 and 1967 by the French veto of British application. The last part of the thesis deals with the unblocking of the enlargement process and its implementation.
