Early Iron Age hilltop sites in Moravia and Czech Silesia

Abstract:

Fenomén výšinného osídlení je pozorovatelný ve všech oblastech zasažených halštatskou kulturou, jeho intenzita však v jednotlivých regionech kolísá a liší se i doba budování opevněných prostor. Práce se zabývá problematikou výšinného osídlení v makroregionu Moravy a Českého Slezska. Prostřednictvím komplexní analýzy hmotných pramenů v kombinaci s údaji získanými terénním výzkumem se snaží najít odpověď na tři základní otázky: kdy byly výšinné lokality v rámci moravského halštatu využívány, co víme o jejich vnitřním uspořádání a konstrukci opevnění a jaká byla jejich funkce a role v sídlištní struktuře tamější starší doby železné.

Abstract:

The phenomenon of hilltop settlement is observable in all areas affected by the Hallstatt culture, but its intensity varies from region to region and the time of con-struction of fortified areas also varies. The thesis deals with the issue of highland settlement in the macroregion of Moravia and Czech Silesia. Through a compre-hensive analysis of material sources in combination with data obtained through field research, it seeks to answer three basic questions: when were the upland sites used in the Moravian Hallstatt, what do we know about their internal layout and con-struction of fortifications, and what was their function and role in the settlement structure of the local Early Iron Age.
