Self-efficacy of Social Workers in working with Families of People with Mental Illness

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o konceptu self-efficacy sociálních pracovníků při práci s rodinami osob s duševním onemocněním. V teoretické části práce je věnován prostor definici rodiny v obecné rovině a v kontextu vlivů duševního onemocnění. Dále je poskytnutý vhled do problematiky spojené s péčí o duševní zdraví a do sociální práce s rodinou. V neposlední řadě je představen koncept self-efficacy a výzkumy zkoumající self-efficacy v sociální práci. Empirická část představuje výsledy kvalitativního výzkumu, který měl podobu hloubkových rozhovorů se sociálními pracovníky. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak sociál-ní pracovníky a pracovníci v sociálních službách vnímají svůj pracovní výkon v kontextu práce s rodinou osob s duševním onemocněním. Pracovníci při práci s rodinou uplatňují zvládací a pracovní strategie. Tyto strategie se odvíjí od míry angažovanosti rodiny ve spolupráci.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on self-efficacy of social workers in working with families of people with mental illness. In the first part, a general definition of family is presented, as well as effects of mental illness on families. An overview of the mental health care system is described along with a social work with families. In the last part of the theoretical part of the thesis, there is presented the concept of self-efficacy and current research results of self-efficacy in the field of social work. In the second part of the thesis, results of the qualitative research are presented. The qualita-tive research was carried out by repeated interviews with social workers. The main goal of the research was to find out how social workers percieve themselves in working with fami-lies of people with mental illness. Social workers have specific coping and occupational stra-tegies that they use while working with families. Those strategies are influenced by families‘ rate of involvement in collaboration with social workers and clients.
