Depiction of the Amish in Crime Fiction

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes multiple works of the Crime Fiction genre which deal with the Amish community and the way the authors of these works depict the Amish. The first part of the thesis deals with the history and origins of the Amish. Following this description is the definition of Crime Fiction together with a short introduction of the authors discussed. In the second part of the thesis, each of the selected works are analyzed with the emphasis put on the Amish and their depiction.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá několika díly detektivního žánru, která se zaměřují na komunitu Amišů a způsob, jakým vybraní autoři tuto komunitu znázorňují. V první části práce je popsána historie Amišů společně s jejich původem. Následuje představení jednotlivých autorů, jejichž díla jsou v praktické části analyzována a také definice žánru detektivní fikce. V druhé části práce probíhá analýza jednotlivých děl zaměřená na různé způsoby, jakými jsou Amišové líčeni.
