Impacts of Covid-19 on the aviation industry and European airlines.

Abstract:

Abstrakt Práce je rozdělena na pět kapitol, první dvě jsou teoretické a charakterizují Covid-19 a odvětví letecké dopravy. Třetí kapitola zkoumá dopad Covid-19 na svět a Evropu. Tyto regiony jsou poté srovnávány ve vlastním výzkumu v kapitole čtyři. Pátá kapitola analyzuje rozdíly dopadu pandemie mezi nízkonákladovými a klasickými dopravci. Závěrečná kapitola hodnotí některé pozitivní dopady na životní prostředí. Tato práce zkoumá a analyzuje vlivy SARS-CoV-2 na oblast mezinárodní letecké dopravy ve světě a v Evropě, s cílem zjistit, jak silné byly dopady SARS-CoV-2 v různých oblastech světa a proč. Dále se práce zabývá analýzou evropských leteckých společností jako celku, za účelem zjištění rozdílu dopadu SARS-CoV-2 na nízkonákladové a klasické letecké dopravce. Pro účely komparace využívá bakalářská práce stanovené ukazatele, na základě, kterých srovnává jednotlivé oblasti a typy aerolinek. Jedná se například o četnost letů, počet cestujících, využití letadel, RPK, ASK, LF nebo vliv a výše státní podpory pro aerolinky v době pandemie. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že nejvíce zasaženou z porovnávaných oblastí byla EU-27, která měla nejhorší výsledky takřka ve všech ukazatelích. Překvapím zjištěním byly výsledky Číny, která se objevovala na druhém konci žebříčku než EU-27. Pátá kapitola ukázala, že rozdíly dopadu na základě ukazatelů na nízkonákladové a klasické dopravce byly minimální.

Abstract:

Abstract This bachelor thesis examines and analyzes the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on the air transport industry worldwide and mainly in Europe. The aim of the paper is to find out which regions were affected the most and what were the reasons for that. In order to identify the differences between the impact of COVID-19 on low-cost and classic airlines, the thesis analyzes European airlines as a whole. For comparisons between regions and airline types, the thesis includes data indicators such as number of passengers, flights, seat capacity, RPK, ASK, LF, or financial aid from governments. There are five chapters in this bachelor's thesis. Primarily, two theoretical chapters outline COVID-19 and air transport. Then, chapter three analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on the world and Europe. The next section then compares these regions as part of the practical component of this paper. The fifth chapter examines the differences between the impact of COVID-19 on low-cost and classic carriers. The final part quantifies the positive effects on the environment. The results of the bachelor thesis showed that among the regions compared, COVID-19 had the worst impact on the EU-27. China, as it turned out, performed extremely well, even though the pandemic started there. The study also proved that the differences between the effects on low-cost and classic airlines were not as significant as expected.
