The Concept of Self in Work of Chosen American Philosophers

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce systematicky seznamuje s pojetím self, které nalezneme u R. W. Emersona, Ch. S. Peirce, W. Jamese, J. Deweyho a G. H. Meada. V první části se nejprve zabývám uvedením do filosofického kontextu celoživotního díla jednotlivých autorů se zvláštní pozorností k těm aspektům jejich práce, které mají vliv na dané pojetí self. Dále představuji ucelené pojetí self, které autor zastával. Jednotlivé poznatky propojuji s psychologickými teoriemi, čímž se pokouším naplnit interdisciplinární ambice práce. Druhá, analytická část popisuje čtyři rysy self, které jsou společné teoriím všech uváděných autorů. Jedná se o dialogický, sociální,horizontální a voluntaristický aspekt self.

Abstract:

This work introduces into a concept of a category of self in a philosophies of these American authors: R. W. Emerson, Ch. S. Peirce, W. James, J. Dewey and G. H. Mead. We concern about general philoso- phical context of lifelong work of these thinkers in the first part. Then I present an integral concept of self, which they created. Particular peices of knowledge are connected with various psychological theories in order to fulfil an interdisciplinar ambitions of this work. Second part describes analytically four traits of a self, that are common for the all theories of presented authors. These are: dialogical, social, horizontal and voluntaristic aspects of self.
