Ayahuasca - inspiration from the virgin forest in the environmental perception of the world

Abstract:

The text explores effects of changed state of mind on one’s perception of the environment. The main goal is to find out if and how might usage of ayahuasca influence an enviromental consciousness in a human being - to discover if the experience of a changed state of mind can lead to processes that change, enhance or initiate one’s relationship, perception and/or behaviour to the nature. The work is based on 8 interviews with individuals who have used ayahuasca at least once, in all instances in the presence of a shaman. The conversations were realized following the method of half-structured interview and processed in accordance with interpretative-fenomenological analysis. As a result, we can reflect on the rain-forest turism phenomenon - the usage of ayahuasca in the presence of a shaman - and can understand the experience of people who have been part of it. From the interviews we learn that some respondents indeed acknowledge the influence of usage of ayahuasca on their perception of the environment. In this sense, we can see usage of ayahuasca as one of alternatives to influence environmental perception.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá účinkami zmeneného stavu vedomia na environmentálne prežívanie človeka. Hlavným cieľom je preskúmať, či a ako užitie ayahuasky ovplyvňuje environmentálne vedomie človeka, zistiť, či nejakým spôsobom dochádza počas zmeneného vedomia k procesom, ktoré by vnímanie prírody, vzťah, poprípade správanie človeka k nej mohli nejako zmeniť, posilniť alebo nejakým spôsobom podnietiť. Práca vychádza z ôsmich rozhovorov s ľuďmi, ktorí ayahuasku užili aspoň raz, a to za doprovodu šamana. Prostredníctvom metódy pološtrukturovaného rozhovoru som tieto dialógy uskutočnila a následne pomocou interpretatívne fenomenologickej analýzy spracovala. Práca tak reflektuje fenomén pralesného turizmu – užívania ayahuasky za doprovodu šamana – a sprostredkováva tak skúsenosť ľudí, ktorí boli jeho súčasťou. Z rozhovorov pritom vyplynulo, že užitie ayahuasky u niektorých respondentov zmeny na environmentálne vedomie malo. V tomto zmysle sa na užitie ayahuasky nahliada ako na jednu z alternatív možného ovplyvnenia environmentálného vedomia.
