The analysis of the aviation industry with a focus on efficiency low-cost and network carrier in the period 2001 - 2010

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce rozebírá ziskovost leteckých společností, které se potýkají s nízkou ziskovou marží. Dále specifika leteckého odvětví, zejména závislost na faktorech, které aerolinie nemůžou ovlivnit a jeho deregulaci. Ta probíhala nejprve na konci 70. let v USA, umožnila vznik nízkonákladových aerolinií a inspirovala další národní a mezinárodní trhy ve světě. Evropský trh byl deregulován odlišně na přelomu 80. a 90. let. Cílem této práce bylo ukázat, který ze dvou odlišných konceptů leteckých společností, síťová aerolinie či nízkonákladová aerolinie, vyhodnocených na základě dat sbíraných z výročních zpráv jednotlivých aerolinií, byl v období 2001 -- 2010 progresivnější. Žádná podobná studie na analýzu leteckého odvětví a komparaci těchto konceptů evropských aerolinií nebyla provedena. Ke komparaci vybraných společností easyJet, Turkish Airlines a ČSA práce využívá hlavní ukazatel, kterým je vývoj ziskovosti, a dále dílčí ukazatele, kterými jsou vývoj počtu přepravených cestujících, počtu letadel, obsazenosti letadel a zaměstnanosti v aerolinii. Dle sesbíraných dat lze konstatovat, že v daném odvětví, navzdory nelehké ekonomické situaci, více prosperovaly ty aerolinie, které byly schopné plnit svůj dlouhodobý podnikatelský záměr.

Abstract:

The work discusses profitability of airlines, that are struggling with low profit margine. Further some specifics which occur in the aviation industry, especially dependence on factors beyond the control of airlines and the deregulation. The first deregulation took place in the first instance in the USA in the late of 70s and allowed the existence of the low-cost carrier and inspired other national and international markets in the world. The European market was deregulated in different way during the 80s and 90s. The aim of this work was to evaluate which of the two different concepts of airlines (network versus low cost carrier) in the period 2001 to 2010 was more progressive. No similar studies to analysis the aviation industry and to comparison of different concepts of European airlines has been made. To comparison of selected airlines easyJet, Turkish Airlines and ČSA the work uses main indicator, which is the evolution of profitability, and secondary indicators, which are the evolution of the number of passengers carried, number of aircraft, load factor and employment in the airline. According to data collected mainly from airline's annual reports it is possible to say, that despote difficult economic situation, prospered that airways, which disposed of some long-term plan and was able to meet him.
