ETA and IRA – the Separatist Organizations in Europe

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou a následnou komparací dvou nejdéle působících separatistických organizací západní Evropy – baskické separatistické organizace ETA a Irské republikánské armády (IRA). Práce se dělí na tři části. První z nich vysvětluje základní teoretické pojmy, které se vztahují na konflikty v Baskicku a Severním Irsku – jako je separatismus, terorismus, národnostní menšina, národní hnutí a národ. Druhá část pojednává o historických souvislostech obou konfliktů – objasňuje příčiny silného národního cítění Basků a Irů, a tím vysvětluje i vznik nacionalistických organizací ETA a IRA. Třetí část práce se již věnuje analýze a komparaci obou separatistických organizací. ETA a IRA jsou v této práci podrobeny komparaci z hlediska jejich vývoje, struktury, ideologie, taktiky boje i jednání s centrálními vládami Španělska a Velké Británie, respektive Irské republiky.

Abstract:

This bachelor degree thesis analyses and compares two the longest time acting separatist organizations in western Europe – the basque separatist organization ETA and Irish republican army (IRA).This bachelor degree thesis is divided into three parts. The first part interprets basic theoretic terms, which are associated with conflicts in Basque country and Northern Ireland – for example: separatism, terrorism, national minority, national movement and nation. The second part deals with historical context of both conflicts – explains causes of strong national sense of the Basques and Irish, thereby makes clear origin of nationalist organizations ETA and IRA. The subject of the third part is an analysis and comparison of both organizations. ETA and IRA are compared in light of their development, structure, ideology, fighting tactic and dealing with central government of Spain and Great Britain or Ireland.
