Restoration of the Melantrich Bible from 1557

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá komplexným reštaurovaním Melantrichovej biblie z roku 1557, ktorá pochádza zo zbierok Múzea Vysočiny Pelhřimov. Kniha má viditeľne poškodené knižné dosky aj knižný blok. Objekt obsahuje množstvo rôznych materiálov. Kniha utrpela vplyvom nedostatočnej ochrany mechanické poškodenia a došlo k značným stratám lepenkovej hmoty. Práce obsahuje kompletnú reštaurátorskú dokumentáciu rozšírenú o informácie o tlači, historické fakty a okolnosti spojené so vznikom objektu. Reštaurátorská dokumentácia podrobne popisuje typológiu knihy, stav objektu pred reštaurátorským zásahom a celý proces reštaurovania. Zahŕňa taktiež textové a grafické prílohy vrátane rozsiahlej fotodokumentácie stavu pred, v priebehu a po reštaurátorskom zákroku.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with complex restoration of the Melantrich Bible of published in 1557, which comes from a collections of the Museum of the Highlands Pelhřimov. The book has visibly damaged book cover and book block. The object contains a number of different materials. The book has suffered due to the lack of protection and mechanical damage has occurred to significant losses cardboard materials. The thesis contains a complete restoration documentation supplemented with information about the print, historical background and circumstances related to its origin. The restoration report describes in detail the typology of the restored book, its condition before and after the treatment and full process of restoration. It is accompanied by text and graphic supplement including extensive photographic documentation of the book condition before, during and after the restoration treatment.
