Moravian nation? Possible structural reasons why moravian nation did not constitute itself

Abstract:

V České republice žijí kromě Čechů také lidé, kteří se označují za Moravany. Přestože na první pohled mohli vytvořit vlastní národ, moderní moravský národ se nekonstituoval. Hlavním cílem této práce je ukázat možné strukturální důvody a vysvětlení, proč se neustavil moderní moravský národ. Bakalářská práce je v první části zaměřena na teoretické vysvětlení souvisejících pojmů – národ, nacionalismus, identita a Morava. Národ a nacionalismus je vysvětlen na základě prací teoretiků nacionalismu. Zdůrazněny jsou podmínky, které jsou podle nich potřebné pro vznik národa. Dále jsou představeny dimenze identity, které se vztahují k národu, a také obecný i historický pohled na Moravu. V druhé části se text zabývá konstruováním národa – teorií sociálního konstruování reality a podmínkami, které mohou podle zmíněných autorů hrát roli při vytváření národa. Také jsou popsány některé projevy moravské národnosti jako politické strany, hnutí nebo jiné skutečnosti, které podporují Moravu. Část kapitoly je věnována zjišťování národnosti ve sčítáních lidu. V závěru práce shrnuje, jaké mohly být klíčové důvody, které ovlivnily, že se moderní moravský národ nekonstituoval.

Abstract:

Besides Czechs, people who consider themselves to be Moravians live in the Czech Republic. Although, at first glance it seems they could create their own nation, the modern Moravian was never established. The main goal of this thesis is to present possible structural reasons and explanations for why modern Moravian nation has not been constituted itself. The first part focuses on theoretical conceptualization of the related terms: nation, nationalism, identity and Moravia. Nation and nationalism are explained on the basis of nationalism theorists' works. The necessary conditions for the creation of a nation are emphasized. Moreover, identity dimensions related to a nation, the general perspective and the history of Moravia are introduced. In the second part, the text focuses on the construction of a nation, namely the theory of social construction of reality and conditions, which according to nationalism theorists, may play a role in the construction of a nation. Furthermore, some manifests of Moravian nationalism, e.g. political parties, movements, etc., supporting Moravia are described. A part of the chapter is dedicated to nationality results of censuses. In conclusion the thesis emphasizes the crucial reasons which influenced the fact that the modern Moravian nation has not been established.
