European Union and Mediterranean region: History and Perspective

Anotace:

Text se zabývá historií a aktuálním směřováním vztahů mezi Evropskou unií a Středozemním regionem. Prostřednictvím analýzy přístupu Evropského společenství/Evropské unie k této oblasti v minulosti se diplomová práce identifikuje hlavní příčiny nedosažení kýžených cílů. Práce identifikovala tři nejdůležitější faktory. Prvním faktorem je chybná percepce regionu a opomenutí existence maghrebského a mashrekského sub-regionu. Druhá příčina neúspěchu je obecně slabé mocenské postavení ES/EU v oblasti. Třetím důvodem je významný vliv jednotlivých rozšiřování, respektive východního rozšíření.

Abstract:

The text deals with the history and current direction of relations between the EU and the Mediterranean region. Through analysis of the approach of the European Community / European Union to the region in the past, the diploma thesis identify the main causes of failure to achieve the desired objectives. Work has identified three key factors. The first factor is the false perception of the region and the omission of the existence of the Maghreb and Mashrek sub-region. The second cause of failure is generally weak power position of the EC / EU. The third reason is the significant impact of enlargements, respectively, the eastern extension.
