South Caucasus Region and its Relations with Russian Federation

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá politicko-bezpečnostním vývojem v regionu jižní Kavkaz od rozpadu Sovětského svazu. Dále jsou analyzovány současné ekonomické, energetické, národnostní a sociální charakteristiky regionu s ohledem na jejich specifika. Analýze jsou podrobeny také politické vazby mezi zeměmi širšího regionu, zahrnující problematiku vzájemných vztahů a regionálních integračních uskupení. Další část práce se zabývá působením Ruské federace na jižním Kavkaze od rozpadu Sovětského svazu. Zde jsou analyzována jednotlivá funkční období ruských prezidentů a jejich aktivity v tomto prostoru. Detailnější pozornost je věnována působení Ruska v politicko-bezpečnostní a energetické sféře na jižním Kavkaze a vzájemným vztahům Ruska se třemi zeměmi regionu jižní Kavkaz - Arménií, Ázerbajdžánem a Gruzií.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with political and security developments in the South Caucasus since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Other topics of analyses are current economic, energy, ethnic and social characteristics of the region with respect to their specificities. Political ties between the countries of the wider region, including the issue of mutual relations and regional integration processes, are also analysed. Another part deals with the activity of the Russian Federation in the South Caucasus since the collapse of the Soviet Union. There are analyzed activities and approaches of all Russian presidents to this area. Detailed attention is paid to the Russia's influence in the political, security and energy sector in the South Caucasus and the mutual relations of Russia with the three countries of the South Caucasus - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
