Family and educational environment effect on a Romany child at the 1st level of elementary school

Abstract:

The Diploma Project is divided into two parts: theoretical and empirical. It contains chapters. The theoretical part of the project is dedicated to the Romany ethnic group and its socio-cultural differences. It emphasizes a very marked contrast between the Romany people living in segregated regions and those living in integrated regions of Slovakia. It focuses on contemporany problems in connection with the educatio- nal process of the Romany ,especially the adaptability problems of schoolchildren. At the same time it stresses the differences of their social environment and its stimulation in relation to child success at school. Particurarly, it brings the adaptation process of children coming from a less stimulating social environment to notice. Moreover, it notices the relation of Romany families to institucional education. The empirical part of the project is dedicated to research of the most comnion causes of appearance of adaptability problems at school within two compared groups of children. Romany and non-Romany. The following research examines direct relations of the influence of a less stimulating social environment to the appearance of adaptability problems at school, in detail. It follows attitudes of a group Romany childrens parents and a group non-Romany childrens parents, both parents of childrens with adaptability problems at schol .

Abstract:

Diplomová práca pozostáva z teoretickej a empirickej časti. Vnútorne sa člení na kapitoly. Teoretická časť práce je zameraná na rómske etnikum a jeho sociokultúrne odlišnosti. Poukazuje na výrazné kontrasty medzi Rómami žijúcimi v segregovaných a integrovaných oblastiach na Slovensku. Zaoberá sa aktuálnymi problémami v súvislosti s procesom vzdelávania Rómov, najmä adaptačnými problémami detí v škole. Zároveň kladie dôraz na špecifiká sociálneho prostredia a jeho podnetnosť vo vzťahu k školskej úspešnosti dieťaťa. Osobitne venuje pozornosť procesu adaptácie v škole u detí pochádzajúcich z málo podnetného sociálneho prostredia. Taktiež si všíma vzťah rómskych rodín k inštitucionalizovanému vzdelávaniu. Empirická časť práce je zameraná na prieskum najčastejších príčin vzniku a výskytu adaptačných problémov v škole u skupiny rómskych detí a u skupiny nerómskych detí. V následnom výskume sa podrobnejšie zaoberáme skúmaním priamych súvislostí vplyvu málo podnetného sociálneho prostredia na vznik adaptačných problémov v škole.
