Francis Fukuyama a Samuel Huntington (The End of History or the Clash of Civilizations?)

Abstract:

V práci se zabývám zkoumáním koncepcí dvou amerických politologů, Francise Fukuyamy a Samuela Huntingtona. Stěžejní část práce je věnována Fukuyamovi a jeho tvrzení, že se nacházíme na konci dějin v důsledku vítězství liberální demokracie jako nejlepšího politického zřízení. Společně s pojmem konce dějin jsou pro Fukuyamu důležité i tyto pojmy: dějiny, touha po uznání a liberální demokracie. Také se zmiňuji o posledním člověku, tvoru na konci dějin. Mimo těchto pojmů představuji Fukuyamův výhled do budoucna, do světa po konci dějin, kdy bude svět rozdělen na dvě části - posthistorickou a historickou. Následuje kritika Fukuyamových tezí a nástin myšlenkového vývoje po vyřčení teze o konci dějin. V části věnované Huntingtonovi se zabývám především klíčovými pojmy jeho koncepce, jimiž jsou civilizace, kultura, kulturní identita a střet civilizací. Srovnání koncepcí obou autorů předkládám v závěrečné části práce, a to v souvislosti s pojmy: konec dějin, kultura, lidská práva a dialog kultur. Ačkoli jsou koncepce Huntingtona a Fukuyamy chápany spíše jako protikladné, lze v nich nalézt rovněž společné rysy.

Abstract:

I deal with an exploratation of two concepcions of the American politologists Francis Fukuyama and Samuel Huntington in my work. The main part of the work is related to Fukuyama and his statement that we are situated at the end of the history in consequence of the victory of liberal democracy as the best political system. These terms are important for Fukuyama: history, human spiritedness, liberal democracy and together with the term end of history. I mention the last man either, the creature at the end of history. Except these terms I introduce Fukuyama´s view of the future, into the world after the end of history when the world will be divided into two parts – posthistorical and historical. A Fukuyama´s thesis critique and sketch of thinking development follow after the sentences about the end of history. I put mainly mind to key terms of his conception which are civilization, culture, cultural identity and the clash of civilizations in the part which is dedicated to Huntington. I set up the comparison of the authors´ conceptions in the end of the work, respectively in connection with the terms: the end of history, human rights and dialogue of cultures. Although the conceptions of Huntington and Fukuyama are seen rather contrary, we can find the common features either.
