Hydrotalcite-based Cu(Co)-Mg-Al oxides for conversion of ethanol to butanol

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na směsné oxidy Cu-Mg-Al a Co-Mg-Al odvozené z příslušných analogů podvojných vrstevnatých hydroxidů. Rozebírá především jejich redukční, acidobazické vlastnosti a katalytickou aktivitu při konverzi ethanolu na butan-1-ol (Guerbetova reakce). Byly studovány směsné oxidy o různých molárních poměrech přechodového kovu ve struktuře. Výše uvedené vlastnosti směsných oxidů byly studovány pomocí experimentálních technik teplotně programovaných metod, jako je teplotně programované redukce, CO2 a NH3 desorpce. Byl tak získán kompletní popis o množství redoxních, bazických a kyselých center na povrchu směsného oxidu, která se uplatňují při katalýze Guerbetovy reakce. Údaje o množství aktivních center byly doplněny o další dostupné strukturní informace, z technik rentgenové difrakční analýzy, termogravimetrie a N2-fyzisorpce. Pomocí těchto technik byla ověřena struktura materiálů, prostudována textura a teplotní stabilita. Data z charakterizace byla korelována s daty konverze ethanolu a selektivity na butanol z Guerbetovy reakce.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis is focused on mixed oxides of Cu-Mg-Al and Co-Mg-Al derived from appropriate analogs of double layered hydroxides. It mainly discusses their reducing, acid-base properties and catalytic activity in the conversion of ethanol to butan-1-ol (Guerbet reaction). Mixed oxides with different molar ratios of the transition metal in the structure were studied. Properties of mixed oxides mentioned above were studied using by temperature-programmed methods such as temperature programmed reduction, CO2 and NH3 desorption. A complete description of the number of redox, basic and acidic centers on the surface of the mixed oxide was obtained. These centers are used in the catalysis of the Guerbet reaction. Data on the number of active centers were supported by other available structural information, from techniques of X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetry and N2-physisorption. Using these techniques, the structure of the materials was verified, texture and temperature stability were studied. Characterization data were correlated with ethanol conversion and selectivity to butanol data from the Guerbet reaction.
