Poland's Energy Transition in the Context of EU Membership

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá probíhající energetickou transformaci Polska v kontextu členství země v Evropské unii. Práce si klade za cíl zjistit, nakolik je současná polská ekonomika schopna projít energetickou transformací a dosáhnout cílů, které pro ni vyplývají z klimatické politiky EU. V práci je uveden historický vývoj polské energetiky a energetické politiky EU. Dále je rozebrán energetický mix Polska a klimaticko-energetické cíle země pro roky 2020 a 2030. Na to navazují jednotlivé pilíře energetické transformace dle národní energetické strategie PEP 2040 a klíčové projekty v ní obsažené. Pozornost je věnována rovněž faktoru energetické bezpečnosti Polska v kontextu války na Ukrajině. Poslední část práce hodnotí schopnost Polska dosáhnout klimatické neutrality do poloviny tohoto století a uvádí výzvy, které Polsku brání v rychlejší energetické transformaci. Pro shrnutí zjištěných informací je v práci použita SWOT analýza.

Abstract:

This thesis examines Poland's ongoing energy transition in the context of the country's membership in the European Union. The thesis aims to find out to what extent the current Polish economy is able to undergo the energy transition and achieve national climate targets set by the European Union. The work presents the historical development of the Polish energy sector and the EU energy policy. Furthermore, it discusses Poland's energy mix and the country's climate and energy targets for 2020 and 2030. This is followed by particular pillars of the energy transition according to the national energy strategy PEP 2040 and key projects included in the strategy. Attention is also paid to the energy security aspect of Poland in the context of the war in Ukraine. The last part of the thesis evaluates Poland's ability to achieve climate neutrality by the middle of this century and presents the challenges that prevent Poland from accelerating its energy transition. To summarize the findings about energy transition, the thesis employs a SWOT analysis.
