Anotácia:

Bakalářská práce s názvem „Sexual Politics in the Adaptations of Restoration Drama“ si klade za cíl objasnit tzv. «sexuální politiku» divadelních her v období stuartovské restaurace, zde konkrétně na analýze hry The Country Wife z pera Williama Wycherleyho. První část práce se zabývá představením socio-kulturních norem restauračního období, které byly důležité jednak pro vznik jednotlivých her, jednak pro vývoj moderního anglického divadla, a jsou proto důležité i v současné době pro porozumění těmto textům. Každá z podkapitol první části popisuje jednu ze změn, jež se udály na jevišti i v hledišti tehdejších divadel, přičemž důraz se zde klade především na podkapitolu s názvem Herečky (Actresses), jež je zásadní pro pochopení «sexuální politiky» divadelních her jak Williama Wycherleyho, tak také dalších restauračních autorů. Druhá část práce, kapitola s titulem „Teorie adaptace“ (The Theory of Adaptation), podrobně představuje aparát Lindy Hutcheon, podle kterého postupuju v záverečné části práce, tj. při analýze Wycherleyho hry a jejím srovnání s původními texty autorů Terence a Moliéra.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the “Sexual Politics in the Adaptations of Restoration Drama”, especially in William Wycherley’s play The Country Wife. First part of the work explains the socio-cultural norms of the Restoration period, which were important both for the creating and understanding of the play, as well as for the development of modern English drama. Each of the subchapters deals with one of the changes that took place both on the stage and among the audience. The subchapter “Actresses” is of a particular importance for understanding the sexual politics of the restoration plays, including The Country Wife. Second part of the thesis introduces Linda Hutcheon’s The Theory of Adaptation, a text that is crucial for the analysis of Wycherley’s play and it’s comparison with the original works by Terence and Moliére.
