The Impact of Foreign Direct Investment and Their Capital Structure on Living Standards in the Visegrad Countries

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá otázku vlivu přímých zahraničních investic a jejich kapitálové struktury na životní úroveň obyvatel států Visegradské skupiny. Základní výzkumná otázka je zodpovězena pomocí analýzy kauzální závislosti vývoje přílivu přímých zahraničních investic a vývoje ukazatele životní úrovně. K řešení výzkumného problému práce využívá metody regresní analýzy, v rámci které je zjišťován vliv vývoje přílivu přímých zahraničních investic na vývoj alternativního ukazatele životní úrovně. Výsledky jsou následně komparovány s další provedenou analýzou závislosti - vývoje přílivu přímých zahraničních investic na vývoj hrubého domácího produktu. Na základě provedené komparace je zhodnocena relevantnost užívání ukazatele hrubého domácího produktu, jako ukazatele životní úrovně. Signalizační jednání investorů z hlediska spokojenosti s investičním prostředím demonstruje sledovaný vývoj reinvestovaného zisku ve struktuře přímých zahraničních investic. Práce navazuje na dosavadní výzkum vlivu přímých zahraničních investic na ekonomickou úroveň států a přináší zjištění jejich vlivu na životní úroveň, která zahrnuje kromě ekonomických statistik také např. aspekty zdraví, či vzdělání.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis examines the issue of the impact of foreign direct investments and its capital structure on the standard of living of the inhabitants of the Visegrad Group countries. The fundamental research question is answered by analyzing the causal dependence of the development of the inflow of foreign direct investments and the development of the standards of living. To solve the research problem, the thesis uses regression analysis, which investigates the influence of the development of the foreign direct investments inflow on the development of alternative standards of living indicator. The results are compared with another analysis of dependence - the development of the inflow of foreign direct investments on the development of a gross domestic product. Based on the comparison, the relevance of using the gross domestic product as a standard of a living indicator is evaluated. Investor singleness behavior in terms of investment environment satisfaction demonstrates the monitored development of reinvested earnings in the structure of foreign direct investments. The thesis builds on previous research of the influence of foreign direct investments on the economic level of states and brings the finding of their influence on the standards of living, which includes besides economic statistics also aspects of health or education.
