Phenomenon of defunced architecture of pilgrims churches in north Bohemia - selected defunced pilgrimage places in the eastern part of the Czech Central Mountains

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se pokouší zmapovat zaniklá poutní místa ve vybraném regionu a popsat dochovaný stav. V počátku práce je věnován prostor fenoménu poutnictví, na nějž navazuje vymezení regionu s vybraným vzorkem sledovaných sakrálních staveb. Stěžejní částí práce je pak popis jednotlivých vybraných staveb a jejich historie. Práce, dle možností, obsahuje výsledky terénního i archivního průzkumu a snaží se upozornit na význam těchto staveb v minulosti a posoudit současný stav. Z vybraného souboru míst se zaniklou poutní tradicí byly nejvýznamnější kaple Nejsvětější Trojice a sv. Prokopa na Božím Vrchu u Verneřic a Kalvárie na vrchu Ostrém u Úštěka. Obě tato místa kristologického/trojičního zasvěcení patřila do sféry vlivu jezuitské rezidence v Liběšicích a spojovala je též ikonograficky náročnější koncepce. S ohledem na dochovaná vyobrazení, která dokládají zajímavý ideový i stavební vývoj kaple na Božím Vrchu lze zániku tak pozoruhodného poutního areálu jen litovat (trojiční poutní místa jsou v kraji dochována již zcela ojediněle). U kaple Nejsvětější Trojice ve Skalici u Žitenic se poutní tradici prokázat nepodařilo, zjevně se jednalo jen o poustevnu s kaplí. V případě Lorety na Viničním vrchu v Žitenicích šlo nejspíše o poutní místo pouze lokálního významu, nicméně počátkem 20. století došlo k pokusu o obnovu této tradice transformací na lurdskou jeskyni. Zvláště komplikovaná je poutní tradice kaple sv. Barbory v Dubici, kde v nedávné době došlo zřejmě k umělé snaze doložit zdejšímu kostelu významnější tradici nejen svatobarborského, ale i mariánského poutního místa. Zatím zjištěné doklady však dosvědčují pouze pokusy ústeckých dominikánů o obnovu barokních procesí ke sv. Barboře. Je sporné, zda frekvence poutí skutečně dosáhla parametrů srovnatelných s klasickým poutním místem. Historická poutní tradice, ačkoliv figuruje v publikovaných populárně-vědeckých příručkách, je proto sporná. Všechna tato místa jsou velmi působivě situovaná v otevřené krajině a zasluhují si více pozornosti i z hlediska rozvoje současné turistiky.

Abstract:

This thesis attempts to map the defunct places of pilgrimage in the selected region and describe the preserved state. The beginning of the work is devoted to the phenomenon of pilgrimage, which continues with a definition of the region with a selected sample of monitored religious buildings. The main section is the description of selected buildings and their history. Work, if possible, includes results from field and archival research and seeks to highlight the importance of these structures in the past and assess the current status. The selected places with extinct pilgrimage tradition were the most important chapel of the Holy Trinity and St. Prokop on God's hill near Verneřice and Calvary on the hill Ostré near Úštěk. Both of these places belonged to the sphere of influence of the Jesuit residence in Liběšice and joined with them also a concept of iconography. With regard to the surviving images that illustrate the interesting conceptual and architectural development of the Chapel in Verneřice we can only regret the demise of sver a remarkable pilgrimage site (trinity places of pilgrimage in the region have rarely survived). At Trinity Chapel in Skalice near Žitenice the pilgrimage tradition failed to prove, obviously it was just a hermitage with a chapel. In the case of Loreto on the Viniční hill in Žitenice it was probably a place of pilgrimage only of local importance, but in the early 20th Century there was an attempt to restore the tradition of transforming in the Lourdes grotto. Particularly complicated is the pilgrimage tradition in the chapel of St. Barbara in Dubice, where recently happened probably an artificial attempt to demonstrate significant historical pilgrimage tradition especialy with the Marian cult. Evidence found so far corroborates only attempts to restore baroque procession to St. Barbara by the Dominican from Usti nad Labem. It is questionable whether those pilgrimages frequently attain the parameters comparable with traditional places of pilgrimage. The historic tradition of pilgrimage, although published in popular science guides, is therefore questionable. All these places are very impressively situated in open country and deserve more attention also in term of a development perspective of the current tourism.
