The motif of Duvalier dictatorship in Haiti in the novels of female authors

Abstract:

In this thesis we focus on the motif of the Duvalier dictatorship in Haiti in the novels of female authors. We present the history of Haiti by focusing on the milestones of the 20th century. We then describe Duvalier's dictatorship and its characteristics, the evolution of Haitian literature and the position of women within it as well as within the society. We finally present the four chosen female authors and analyse their novels. The objective of this thesis is to study the different approaches to the representation of the motif of the Duvalier dictatorship in the chosen novels and to describe the specificity of the feminine perspective on the historical experience.

Abstract:

Dans le travail présenté nous nous consacrons au motif de la dictature de Duvalier a Haiti dans les oeuvres romanesques au féminin. Nous y présentons l'histoire d'Haiti en se concentrant sur les événements marquants du XXe siecle. Nous décrivons ensuite la dictature de Duvalier et ses caractéristiques, l'évolution de la littérature haitienne et de la position des femmes dans celle-ci ainsi que dans la société. Nous présentons enfin les quatre femmes écrivains choisies et nous analysons leurs romans. L'objectif de ce travail est d'étudier les différentes approches vers la représentation du motif de la dictature de Duvalier dans les ?uvres romanesques choisies et de décrire la spécificité du regard féminin sur le fait historique vécu.
