Foreign policy of Federal Republic of Germany in the period of Helmut Kohl

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá zahraniční politikou Spolkové republiky Německo během kancléřského období Helmuta Kohla. Cílem práce je analyzovat zahraniční politiku Spolkové republiky Německo se zaměřením na vztah se Sovětským svazem/Ruskem, Spojenými státy, a ČSSR/ČSFR/ČR. Dalším z cílů je určit podíl Helmuta Kohla na zahraniční politice Spolkové republiky Německo. Práce by měla nalézt odpověď na otázku, zda i po sjednocení Německo ve své zahraniční politice následovalo koncept "civilní mocnosti". Během psaní své práce jsem použila metodu komparativní a analyticko-syntetickou. Důvodem pro zvolení tématu je můj zájem o zahraniční politiku sousedního státu v závěru studené války během období transformace režimů ve střední Evropě. Práce je rozdělena do šesti kapitol. V první kapitole se zabývám definicí teoretických východisek zahraniční politiky. Ve druhé kapitole se zkoumám postoje a politické působení Helmuta Kohla. Ve třetí kapitole se věnuji hlavním tématům zahraniční politiky Helmuta Kohla. Ve čtvrté kapitole se zabývám zahraničně-politickým vztahem Spolkové republiky Německo se Sovětským svazem, respektive jednotným Německem a Ruskem za vlády Helmuta Kohla. V páté kapitole se věnuji zahraničně-politickým vztahům Spolkové republiky Německo a Spojených států v období Kohlovy vlády. V závěrečné kapitole se věnuji zahraničním vztahům Spolkové republiky Německo k československému státu v průběhu osmdesátých a devadesátých let. V závěru dospívám k názoru, že Spolková republika Německo ve své zahraniční politice pokračovala s několika odchylkami ve shodě s principy konceptu "civilní mocnosti".

Abstract:

This thesis deals with foreign policy of the Federal Republic of Germany during the period of Chancellor Helmut Kohl. The aim of final goal it to analyze the foreign policy of the Federal Republic of Germany with a focus on the relationship with the Soviet Union/Russia, the United States and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic/Czechoslovak Federal Republic/Czech Republic. Second aim of this thesis is to determine role of Helmut Kohl in foreign policy of the Federal Republic of Germany. This thesis should find an answer to a question if the foreign policy of Federal Republic of Germany followed concept of "civilian power" after the unification. The first method I used during writing my thesis was comparative and the second one was analytical-synthetic. The main reason for choosing this topic was my interest about foreign policy of neighbouring state during cold war transformation of regimes in middle Europe. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter of the thesis deals with the definition of the theoretical foundations of foreign policy. The second part examines attitudes and political action Helmut Kohl. The third chapter is devoted to the main issues of foreign policy Helmut Kohl. The fourth part deals with the deals with the forein-affair relationship of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Soviet Union, or Russia during the eighties and nineties. In the fifth chapter I examine relationship of the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States in the above mentioned period. The final chapter is devoted to the relationship of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic/Czechoslovak Federal Republic/Czech Republic during the eighties and nineties. At the end of this thesis we find that Federal Republic of Germany in its foreign policy continued with some variations in accordance with the principles of the "civilian power" concept.
