The association between neck pain and headache and head deformity among men

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahem bolesti krční páteře a hlavy u mužů s deformitou hlavy. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, zda deformita hlavy vyvolává v pozdějším věku bolesti krční páteře nebo hlavy. Teoretická část se věnuje typům deformit hlavy, jejich vzhledu, vzniku a řešení. Dále konkrétně popisuje i jednotlivé druhy bolestí hlavy, se zaměřením na bolesti migrenózního a tenzního charakteru, a krční páteře. Praktická část zahrnuje 20 probandů, z nichž polovina udávala bolesti hlavy a polovina bolesti krční páteře, kdy podmínkou bylo, že bolesti nejsou způsobeny herniací disku. Výběr probandů podléhal i kritériu jako holohlavost, kvůli pozdějšímu vyhodnocení programem Scodiac. Ke zjištění výsledků byly využity fotografie temenní části hlavy, které byly analyzovány programem Scodiac pro deformitu hlavy. Pro bližší údaje o bolestech byla od probandů odebrána anamnéza. Z výsledků vyplývá, že deformity hlavy mohou způsobovat bolesti hlavy i krční páteře. Brachycefalie může být významným spouštěčem mírných bolestí hlavy i krční páteře. Kombinované deformity hlavy jako závažnější druh deformit hlavy byly spojeny se silnějšími bolestmi a to v intenzitě střední až silné.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with association between neck pain and headache and head deformity among men. The main goal is to find out whether head deformity is a cause of headache or neck pain of older adults. The theoretical part is dedicated to types of head deformities, their appearance, cause and treatment. Concretelly it is describing types of headaches, focusing on migraines and tension headaches, and neck pain. For the practical part it is chosen 20 male probands, where half of them is complainig about headaches and the other half about a neck pain. Aspects of probands selection are baldness and fact that the pain is nonradicular. The practical part also uses pain anamnesis and photos of the top of the head that are assesed by the Scodiac software. The results confirm that head deformities are possibly causing both headache and neck pain. Brachycephaly may be an important trigger of mild intensity headache and neck pain. Combination of plagiocephaly and brachycephaly as a more serious sort of head deformity is connected with moderate and severe pain intensity.
