V roce 1967 vydal William Styron román inspirovaný povstáním otroků, ke kterému došlo v Southamptonu ve Virginii, ve Spojených státech amerických, v roce 1831. In 1967 William Styron published a novel based on the slave rebellion which occurred in Southampton County in Virginia, The United States of America, in 1831. The leader of the revolt was Nat Turner, a black slave who felt chosen to liberate his people.
