Designing new user interface using Activity-Centered Design approach

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na návrh uživatelského rozhraní za pomocí přístupu Activity-Centered Design (ACD), konkrétně na zlepšení uživatelského rozhraní Integrovaného studijního informačního systému (InSIS), který je používán nejen studenty na Vysoké škole ekonomické. Cílem práce je ověřit vhodnost použití přístupu ACD pro tvorbu uživatelského rozhraní. Dílčím cílem práce je vytvoření interaktivního prototypu, který je použit pro otestování použitelnosti a intuitivnosti navrženého uživatelského rozhraní. V první části práce je popsán InSIS a jeho funkcionality, které jsou v práci řešeny. Následně je popsán samotný přístup ACD, který vznikl jako řešení nedostatků jiných přístupů pro tvorbu uživatelských rozhraní, a také problematika reflektování času v uživatelských rozhraních. Následuje analýza problémů současného uživatelského rozhraní InSIS a návrh jejich řešení za použití metody navržené dle teoretických poznatků o ACD. Poté je navržena struktura stránek za pomocí wireframů a vyhotoven grafický návrh nového uživatelského rozhraní. Nakonec je provedeno uživatelské testování za pomocí interaktivního prototypu, které ověřuje dosažení cíle práce.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on creation of enhanced user interface of Integrated study information system (InSIS) using Activity-Centered Design (ACD) approach. InSIS is central system used by students for managing their study-related agenda. Main goal of this thesis is verification of usability of ACD approach for design of user interface. Interactive prototype will be used for testing of usability and intuitiveness of the proposed user interface design. First part is describing functions of InSIS which will be addressed in this thesis. The next part is focused on ACD, which emerged as a solution for shortcomings of other approaches to user interface design. Using time in user interface design is also addressed in this part. After that, detailed analysis of usability problems is made and appropriate solutions for those problems are introduced using method based on theoretical knowledge about ACD. Design phase including wireframes and graphical designs follows. In the end designed user interface is tested on interactive prototype by real users to confirm the main goal of this thesis is met.
