Abstract:

The thesis "Václav Renč, life, translations of Shakespeare and the translatological heritage of Otokar Fischer" focuses on the personality and work of the Czech poet, playwright, and translator of Shakespeare. First, I tried to make a complete biography of Václav Renč, including the search into the crucial years and events that affected his work. In the second half of the thesis, the main aim was to try to find the main elements that make Renčs translation work extraordinary in the Czech translation field of the 1960s and to find the main sources which Renč was influenced by in his translating. Finally, I made a comparative study between two translations of Macbeth by Václav Renč and by Otokar Fischer.
