Metals sorption on montmorillonite

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá adsorpcí měďnatého a zinečnatého kationtu na dva různé sorbenty ? montmorillonit typu SAz?1 a montmorillonit SAz-1 modifikovaný hexadecyltrimethylamonium bromidem. Sorpční experimenty byly prováděny z vodných roztoků, adsorbované množství iontů bylo zjišťováno pomocí atomové absorpční spektrometrie. Sorpční vlastnosti obou sorbentů byly porovnány na základě získaných sorpčních izoterem. Nejvyšší adsorpce byla zaznamenána po osmi hodinách a tato doba byla použita i pro další pokusy. Maximální naadsorbované množství na montmorillonit pro Cu2+ bylo 0,536 mmol.g-1 a pro Zn2+ 0,451 mmol.g-1. Díky menšímu iontovému poloměru se na jílu zachytilo více Cu2+ než Zn2+ . Modifikace nepřispěla k zvýšení naadsorbovaného množství pro oba ionty, protože došlo k zaplnění aktivních míst organickým kationtem. Současná sorpce iontů kovů a organického kationtu na montmorillonit poskytla výsledky podobné sorpci samotných kovů.

Abstract:

The aim of this work was to investigate adsorption of copper and zinc ions onto two different sorbents ? montmorillonite (SAz?1) and montmorillonite SAz-1 modified with hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide. The sorption experiments were performed from the aqueous solutions of ions, an adsorbed amount was determined by means of atomic absorption spectrometry. The sorption properties of the studied sorbents were compared by means of the sorption isotherms. The maximum uptake was registered after eight hours and this time was used in the next experiments. The maximum value of sorbed amount on montmorillonite for Cu2+ was 0,536 mmol.g-1 and 0,451 mmol.g-1 for Zn2+ . The clay sorbed the higher amount of copper than zinc, because copper has the smaller ionic radii. Modification didn´t contribute to increased uptake amount of both ions due to occupation of the active centres with the organic cations. The simultanoues sorption of the metal ions and the organic cation exhibited results similar to those obtained by the metal ions sorption.
