"Sovereignty" of an art work in thinking of Georges Bataille

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci je pojednáno o počátku umění a jeho transformaci v současné době. Cílem této práce je zkoumání a následné analyzování příčin vzniku umění jako takového v období pravěku, které je srovnáváno se vznikem moderního umění. Období pravěku je zastoupeno jeskynními malbami v Lascaux, versus moderní umění je reprezentováno především Manetem, jakožto prvním tvůrcem moderního umění. Tato práce se zaměřuje na interpretaci děl a myšlení francouzského filozofa G. Bataille, který právě považoval Maneta za prvního moderního malíře. Základním konceptem této práce je komparace a analýza pojmů, které jsou pro již zmíněná období shodná. Těmito pojmy jsou dle Bataille smrt, transgrese, svrchovanost, svět hry a posvátno. Podrobněji bude tato práce pojednávat o transformaci a posunu významů zmíněných pojmů v obou obdobích. Smrt, transgrese, svrchovanost, svět hry a sakrální svět nelze definovat samostatně, je zapotřebí vnímat umění jako celek, který se skládá z mnoha prvků. A právě Bataille přináší ve svých pracích detailnější analýzu, která se zabývá základními stavebními kameny, jako jsou smrt, transgrese, svrchovanost, svět hry či sakrální svět. Umění jako takové nelze separovat od okolního světa, je nutné jej pojímat jako otevřený systém, spojeným s různými aspekty dané společnosti. Tato bakalářská práce vychází především z myšlenek a děl Georges Bataille. Základní principy umění, jeho funkce a podstata ve společnosti jsou další témata, která budou definována při interpretaci myšlení a děl G. Bataille. V práci je kladen důraz na význam pojmu umění, technická stránka je záměrně opomíjena. Umění je zde rozebíráno na základě jeho vlivů na společnost, dále se bude tato práce soustředit na vývoj a rozpory v myšlení umělců. Hlubší analýza myšlení a názorů Georges Bataille je cílem této práce. Tato práce přináší pohled na zrod umění, jak ho vnímal Bataille a zkoumá pozici umění v lidské historii a společnosti.

Abstract:

In this Bachelor thesis, it was focused on thinking and work of Georges Bataille. Origins of art and its transformation in today?s times are deeply analysed. The aim of this work is to provide readers with comparison of prehistoric art and modern art. The prehistoric art is characterized by cave paintings in Lascaux in France and modern art is represented by French painter Manet, who was the founder of modern art, according to Bataille. The fundamental aim of this thesis is comparison and analysis of terms, which are common for both time periods and are significant in Bataille?s theories about art. These terms are the Death, the Transgression, the Sovereignty, the World of Play and the Sacred. According to Bataille, all of these terms are in close relationships and affect each other. Based on the explanation of these terms, Bataille defines art. Bataille claims that the birth of art in Lascaux caves is the first moment when Human Being started to express itself. Art is in opposition against the world of work and provides to Human Being achievement of the Sacred. Bataille connects mentioned terms with birth of Human Being and art in Lascaux; and the same terms he analyses in the modern art, which starts with Manet. In Manet era, Bataille sees the same terms as those in Lascaux times. In both cases, Bataille considers art to be a tool for the Transgression in many ways (Transgression of taboo or Death). Period between Lascaux and Manet was a time when the art was influenced and manipulated by the Church and rulers. Manet was the first sovereign artist, who was creating by his own rules. Manet exceeds taboos of his times. This is the reason why Bataille considers Manet to be the originator of the modern art. All of the mentioned terms are precisely analysed in this thesis and the aim was to provide readers with transformation of terms (the Death, the Transgression, the Sovereignty, the World of Play and the Sacred) from Lascaux era and Manet?s times.
