Security aspects of immigration: Norwegian case study and its wider implications

Abstract:

Imigrace se stala tématem, které v posledních letech budí zvýšenou pozornost, a to hlavně v kontextu Evropské migrační krize. Tato bakalářská práce rozvíjí, co imigrace přináší danému státu a společnosti v něm žijící na základě předchozího výzkumu. Posléze jsou tyto potenciální efekty otestovány na případové studii Norska mezi lety 2004 a 2018. Statistická analýza Norska objevila omezený dopad imigrace na norskou ekonomickou situaci. Také byla objevena stále rostoucí úroveň asimilace a zvyšující se komfort rodilého obyvatelstva s migranty. Tyto efekty existují navzdory politicky motivovaným teroristických útoků Breivika, které byly přímo namířeny nejen proti vládě samotné, ale hlavně proti největší pro-imigrační politické straně. Je mnoho důvodů pro takový úspěch, počínaje povahou imigračních politik, neobvykle efektivnímu vězeňskému systému, po celkovou povahu země.

Abstract:

Immigration has been a topic drawing increasing attention lately, especially in the context of the European migration crisis. This thesis focuses on what immigration brings to the respected state and its society based on previous research and evaluates these potential effects in the case of Norway between 2004 and 2018. Statistical analysis of Norway has shown a limited impact of immigration on the Norwegian economic situation. Furthermore, there is a steady increase in the levels of assimilation and increasing comfort among native Norwegians when in contact with immigrants. This is despite Anders Behring Breivik’s politically motivated terrorist attacks on 22 July 2011 that targeted the government and the members and affiliates of the main pro-immigration political party. There are many reasons for such a success, ranging from the shape of immigration policies, an extraordinarily successful prison system, and the overall nature of the country.
