The Power of Control in "Lord of the Flies" and "Cat and Mouse"

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is dealing with the topic of the power of gaining control over people in the books Katz and Maus and Lord of the Flies. Through an analysis of these two books I want to confirm that power doesn't exist in the extent of leader-successor but I follow the theory and the thoughts of Foucault who claims that power builds a closed circle in which every person actively incites the power. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts. First there is an overview of the direction of literature, authors and works so that I could also work with the background. The second part is more practical where I analyse particular parts of the books about Foucault´s theory.

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci se zabývám tématem moci ovlivňování v knize ,,Kočka a Myš" a ,,Pán Much". Pomocí analýzi těchto dvou knih chci dokázat, že moc neexistuje jen v rámci vztahu vládnoucí a ovládaný, ale následuji teorii Foucaulta, který tvrdí, že moc je uzavřený kruh, ve kterém každý člověk, nezávisle na jeho pozici ve společnosti, aktivně produkuje či podněčuje moc. Práci jsem rozdělila na dvě části. V první se zabývám stručným přehledem literárních směrů, životopisem autotů a jejich díly. V druhé časti se věnuji konkrétním pasážím a výňatkům z knih, na kterých potvrzuji Foucaultovy teorie o moci.
