The Relation between the State and the Religion in the Work of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je analýza pojetí státu a jeho vztahu k náboženství v díle Thomase Hobbese a Johna Locka. Ačkoli oba anglické filosofy řadíme takřka do stejné historické éry, jejich názory se v této věci zásadně lišily. Proto je zde nezbytně nutné vzít v úvahu historické a životní situace, ve kterých oba filosofové žili, a které mohly mít vliv na utváření jejich názorů. Pozornost je věnována charakteristickým rozdílům v oblastech, jako jsou představy o přirozeném stavu člověka, o podobě společenské smlouvy a také o uspořádání lidské společnosti.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is to analyze the concept of state and its relation to religion in the work of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. Although both the English philosophers we rank almost in the same historical era, their views on the matter differed significantly. There is therefore necessary to take into account the historical and environmental situations in which the two philosophers lived, and which could have an influence on shaping their views.Attention is paid to characteristic differences in areas such as images of the natural state of man, a form of social contract and the organization of human society.
