Evolutions And Changes In Austrian Political Parties‘ Attitudes Towards European Integration

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je psána jako případová studie Sociálnědemokratické strany Rakouska (SPÖ), Rakouské lidové strany (ÖVP), Svobodomyslné strany Rakouska (FPÖ) a strany Zelených -Zelené alternativy a jejím hlavním cílem je analytický popis vývoje postojů těchto stran k evropské integraci a členství v EU od padesátých let 20. století až do současnosti. Vedlejším cílem potom bude objasnění faktorů a událostí, které se podílely na formování těchto postojů, a přiblížení současné programové pozice zmíněných stran v otázkách evropské integrace. Výzkumné otázky, které se práce pokusí zodpovědět, jsou následující: Jak se v průběhu času vyvíjely postoje jednotlivých stran k evropské integraci? Jaké faktory a události se podílely na formování a proměnách těchto postojů? Jaká je jejich současná programová pozice v otázkách evropské integrace a jaký mají nyní názor na členství Rakouska v EU?

Abstract:

This diploma thesis presents a case study of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and the party of The Greens – The Green Alternative and its primary goal is an analytical description of the evolution of these parties‘ attitudes towards European integration and the European Union membership from the 1950s to the present. The secondary goal will be to clarify factors and events that have shaped these attitudes and to describe the current programmatic positions of these parties on European integration. The research questions we aim to answer are formulated as following: How have the parties’ attitudes towards European integration developed in the course of time? What factors and events have formed and changed these attitudes? What are their current programmatic positions on European integration and opinions on Austria’s EU membership?
