Oligopolistic Structure of the Banking Market and Profitability in Selected Banking Systems

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje analýze oligopolní struktury a ziskovosti ve vybraných bankovních systémech. V první části práce jsou definovány základní pojmy teorie oligopolu a měření monopolní síly včetně rešerše současného vědeckého poznání v oblasti oligopolní struktury. Druhá část se věnuje vývoji bankovních sektorů Německa, Francie, Velké Británie, Itálie a Španělska. Třetí část je zaměřena na měření koncentrace na bankovních trzích daných zemí a vztah mezi veličinami koncentrací a zisku. Následuje konečné srovnání a vyhodnocení zjištěných závěrů.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to the analysis of oligopolistic structures and profitability in selected banking systems. The first part defines the basic concepts of the theory of oligopoly and monopoly power measurement including research of current scientific knowledge in field of oligopolic structure.The second part is dedicated to the development of banking sector in Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. The third part is focused on measuring the concentration in the banking markets of the chosen countries as well as the relationship between the variables concentration and profits. Following is a final comparison and evaluation.
