Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá situací, která nastala ve Spojených státech amerických bezprostředně po válce Severu proti Jihu. Hlavním důsledkem této občanské války bylo zrušení otroctví, se kterým vyvstalo několik otázek týkajících se začlenění osvobozených otroků do společnosti a zajištění nejen jejich občanských a volebních práv, ale také základních lidských potřeb jako je bydlení, vzdělání a obživa. Cílem práce je popsat toto historické období, které je známé jako tzv. Rekonstrukce Jihu, a shrnout problémy, se kterými se poválečný Jih musel potýkat. Zvláštní pozornost je pak věnována bývalým otrokům, pro které nabytím svobody jejich boj s diskriminací a utiskováním rozhodně neskončil.

Abstract:

Diploma theses The Consequences of the Abolition of Slavery is focused on the situation in the United States evoked by the Civil War. Its main consequence was the abolition of slavery which brought up several questions concerning the social statut of the freed slaves and ensuring not only their civil rights and the rights to vote but also the basic human needs such as accommodation, education and labor. The aim of the theses is to describe the historical period known as the Reconstruction and to summarise the problems the post-war South had to face. Special attention is devoted to the former slaves who, in their new life in freedom, had to fight with discrimination and oppression.
