The key mechanisms of collaboration between teachers and teaching assistants in a comprehensive teacher training school in Finland

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zaměřuje na téma spolupráce učitelů a asistentů pedagoga na prvním stupni finské fakultní základní školy. Jejím cílem je identifikovat a popsat klíčové vztahy (mechanismy), které zde spolupráci učitelů a asistentů budují. K jejich identifikaci byl při zpracování dat z rozhovorů a pozorování uplatněn přístup situační analýzy. Pro pochopení kontextu situace ve finském vzdělávání jsou v teoretické části zahrnuty diskuze sociální inkluze a specifických aspektů inkluzivního vzdělávání spolu s historickým vývojem, který umožnil nabýt finskému vzdělávacímu systému stávající podobu. Interpretace výsledků výzkumu předkládá šest mechanismů, ve kterých byl vždy centrálním elementem učitel jako vysoce kvalifikovaný profesionál. Tento prvek navázal v rámci mechanismů vzájemnou interakci s elementy otevřený prostor školy jako okno ke spolupráci, specifičnost školy s udržitelností diverzity, přirozený tlak na týmovost, implicitně deklarovaný individuální přístup, asistenti pedagoga jako přizvaní spolutvůrci klimatu školy a management. Práce poskytuje hluboký vhled do množiny vztahů, které umožnily konstrukci spolupráce učitelů a asistentů pedagoga na konkrétní škole, která má potenciál být klíčová při vytváření podporujícího prostředí škol. Z provedené analýzy vyplynulo, že fenomén budování spolupráce mezi aktéry školství představuje komplexní výzvu, který vyžaduje systematický a záměrný přístup pro dosažení úspěšných výsledků vzdělávacích systémů.

Abstract:

The dissertation focuses on the topic of collaboration between teachers and teaching assistants in the first grade of a Finnish faculty primary school. It aims to identify and describe the key relationships (mechanisms) that build teacher and teaching assistant collaboration here. To identify them, a situational analysis approach was applied in the processing of interview and observation data. In order to understand the context of the situation in Finnish education, the theoretical part includes discussions of social inclusion and specific aspects of inclusive education, along with the historical developments that have enabled the Finnish education system to take its current form. The interpretation of the research results presents six mechanisms in which the teacher as a highly qualified professional has always been the central element. Within the mechanisms, this element interacted with the elements of the open space of the school as a "window" for collaboration, the specificity of the school with the sustainability of diversity, the natural pressure for teamwork, the implicitly declared individual approach, teaching assistants as invited co-creators of the school climate, and management. The thesis provides deep insight into the set of relationships that enabled the construction of teacher and teaching assistant collaboration in the school studied, which has the potential to be crucial in creating a supportive school climate. From the analysis conducted, it was found that the phenomenon of building collaboration between schooling actors is a complex challenge that requires a systematic and deliberate approach to achieve successful outcomes for education systems.
