Abstract:

Diplomová se bude zabývat teorií spravedlivé války a její aplikací na britskou intervenci v Iráku roku 2003. Teoretická část rozebere samotný koncept teorie spravedlivé války, jak jej chápat (zdali jde o skutečnou teorii) a jeho historii. Hlouběji se práce bude zabývat konkrétními principy a filozofickými dilematy s nimi spojenými. Zahrnuty budou příklady aplikace jednotlivých principů, aby bylo jasně vidět, jak a kdy tato teorie může pomoci v etických dilematech spojených s konflikty. Na jejich základě bude odůvodněn výběr konkrétních výkladů principů pro další část práce. V krátkosti práce shrne též alternativní přístupy k etice v mezinárodních vztazích (realismus, pacifismus, militarismus) a perspektivu mezinárodního práva, jakožto alternativu k filozofickému pohledu teorie spravedlivé války. Válce v Iráku roku 2003 bude věnována praktická část. V ní bude obsažen popis historicko-kulturního pozadí konfliktu, analýza jeho dlouhodobých i bezprostředních příčin a nástin jeho průběhu. Stěžejní část práce bude tvořit aplikace principů teorie spravedlivé války na britské jednání před a v průběhu tohoto konfliktu. Na jejím základě bude vystavěna snaha zhodnotit, zda bylo toto jednání v souladu s principy teorie spravedlivé války.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with just war theory and its application on the British intervention in Iraq in 2003. The theoretical part explains the concept of just war, how to understand it (if is a genuine theory) and its history. The thesis addresses the particular principles of the theory and the dilemmas connected to it in a greater detail. Examples of application of the principles are included in order to show how and when the theory may help to resolve the ethical dilemmas related to the armed conflicts. On the basis of this discussion, particular interpretation of the principles is chosen for the further use in the thesis. The text also briefly summarizes alternative attitudes to the ethics in the international relations (realism, pacifism, militarism) and the perspective of the international law as the alternative to the philosophical point of view of the just war theory. The practical part of the thesis deals with the war in Iraq itself. Historical and cultural background of the conflict, analysis of its long-term and immediate causes and its course is outlined. The key part of the thesis contains the application of the British actions before, during and after the conflict. On this basis, the text assesses whether these actions complied with the principles of just war theory.
