Topologies of Time and Temporal Logic

Abstract:

Práce mapuje vývoj temporální logiky od formulace problému budoucích kontingentních výpovědí u Aristotela, až po současnost s přihlédnutím k představě času, která byla v různých systémech uplatňována. Tyto představy jsou v práci prezentovány ve formě jednoduchých geometrických topologií. Záměrem je ukázat rozdílné axiomatické systémy v moderní logice, pro různé topologie času. Převážná část práce je věnována způsobu jakým zkonstruoval A. N. Prior svou Tense Logic, která je předchůdcem moderní temporální logiky. Autor se snaží ukázat, jakým způsobem jednotlivé topologie vycházejí z filosofických a vědeckých předpokladů a zároveň pak ovlivňují filosofické postoje a argumenty jejich autorů. Jedním z hlavních témat v závislosti na topologii času je pak spor determinismu a indeterminismu, práce ukazuje některá jejich řešení v temporální logice.

Abstract:

The thesis is following development of temporal logic, since the Aristotelian postulation of the future contingents, until more recent days, with the focus on concepts of time applied to each of these different systems. These concepts are presented in the form of simple geometrical topologies. The aim is to show different axiomatic basis in modern temporal logic, for different time topologies. Large part of the paper is devoted to the way A. N. Prior constructed his Tense Logic, which is the precursor of modern temporal logic. The author is trying to point out, how some of the individual topologies of time are resulting, from philosophical and scientific premises and also how they affect philosophical standpoints and arguments of their creators. One of the main topics in the relation to topology of time is argument over determinism and indeterminism, paper is showing some of the different solutions for this problem in temporal logic.
