Automatic extraction of steps from cooking recipes

Abstract:

V předkládané práci se zabýváme automatickou extrakcí kuchařských činností z textů receptů s důrazem na česky psané recepty ze stránky toprecepty.cz. Představujeme zde možnost extrakce pracovního postupu popsaného receptem ve formě stromového grafu. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jedná o netriviální úkol, zaměřili jsme se pouze na dílčí krok—automatické zpracování sloves. Vytvořili jsme pythonovský skript, který za pomoci morfologického analyzátoru Majka a gramatické heuristiky u každého slovesa určí, zdali označuje kuchařskou činnost. Skript byl vyhodnocen na 10 ručně označkovaných receptech; průměrná přesnost byla 0,84 (σ=0.15) a průměrný Jaccardův koeficient podobnosti 0,87 (σ=0.13).

Abstract:

The present work is concerned with the automatic identification of cooking activities in recipes. A particular emphasis is placed on recipes written in Czech and published on toprecepty.cz. I explore the possibilities of extracting the recipe procedure and structuring it as a tree graph. Since this is a non-trivial task, I only attempt to automate a subsidiary step—the processing of verbs. I created a Python script that employs the morphological tagger Majka and a grammatical heuristic to decide whether a verb denotes a cooking action. I tested the output of the script against 10 manually annotated recipes, yielding an average precision score of 0.84 (σ=0.15) and an average Jaccard similarity coefficient of 0.87 (σ=0.13).
