Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá, jaký vliv měla sociální média a veřejné mínění na americkou zahraniční politiku vůči izraelsko-palestinskému konfliktu. K tomu je využito teoretických znalostí z liberalismu, konstruktivismu a teorií médií společně s komparací mediálního pokrytí, veřejného mínění a zahraniční politiky. První kapitola se věnuje rozdílům mezi sociálními a tradičními médii a charakterizuje změny, které díky odlišnostem sociálních médií nastaly. Druhá kapitola pojednává o americkém zpravodajství o zahraničí se zaměřením na typické prvky mediálního rámce izraelsko-palestinského konfliktu a identifikuje charakteristické rysy veřejného mínění americké společnosti a americké zahraniční politiky v době tradičních médií. Třetí a poslední kapitola zkoumá vliv sociálních médií. Soustředí se na popsání odlišností v mediálním pokrytí, veřejném mínění a zahraniční politice Spojených států vůči izraelsko-palestinského konfliktu s tím, že se více zaměřuje na střety v roce 2021. Práce ukázala, že sociální média zpřístupnila informace o izraelsko-palestinském konfliktu, které by dříve nebyly dostupné, a tím zaktivizovala média a veřejné mínění. Zprostředkování jiných informací vedlo více lidí k sympatizování s Palestinci, ale také s Izraelem. Výsledkem byly více vyhraněné názory, které se projevily i ve změnách tradičního rámce americké zahraniční politiky v podobě kroků ve prospěch palestinské, nebo izraelské strany.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the influence of social media and public opinion on American foreign policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. For this, theoretical knowledge from liberalism, constructivism and media theory is used together with a comparison of media coverage, public opinion, and foreign policy. The first chapter deals with the differences between social and traditional media and characterizes the changes that have occurred due to the differences in social media. The second chapter discusses American foreign reporting, focusing on typical elements of the media framework of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and identifies the characteristic features of public opinion of American society and American foreign policy in the age of traditional media. The third and final chapter examines the influence of social media. It focuses on describing the differences in media coverage, public opinion, and foreign policy of United States towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with a greater focus on the clashes in 2021. The work showed that social media has made information about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that would previously unavailable, available, and thus activated the media and public opinion. Mediation of other information led more people to sympathize with the Palestinians, but also with Israel. The result was more extreme views, which were also reflected in changes of the traditional framework of American foreign policy in the form of steps in favor of the Palestinian or Israeli side.
