The (un)scientific Status of the Concept of Intelligent Design and Its Manifestations in American Politics

Abstract:

The thesis deals with an analysis of the Intelligent design concept with regard to its scientific status and its manifestations into American politics, especially education policy. The thesis will follow the development of the idea to connect scientific account with the role of a creator in the origin of biological species. Intelligent design theory will be discussed with regard to its methodology, applied concepts as well as its social focus and goals. There will be analyzed its effort to acquire scientific status, related arguments, and possible difficulties. Afterwards the thesis will explain the importance of ID’s scientific status or lack thereof, for its manifestations in US education policy with relation to the question of constitutionality and protection of the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá analýzou konceptu Inteligentného dizajnu s ohľadom na jeho vedecky status a manifestácie v politike Spojených štátov amerických, predovšetkým tej vzdelávacej. Práca bude sledovať vývoj myšlienky prepojenia vedeckého poznania s myšlienkou úlohy stvoriteľa v pôvode biologických druhov. Bude diskutovaná teória Inteligentného dizajnu s ohľadom na jej metodológiu, používané koncepty, ale aj spoločenské zameranie a ciele. Analýze bude podrobená jej snaha o získanie vedeckého statusu, s tým súvisiace argumenty a prípadné problémy. Následne bude vysvetlený význam (ne)vedeckého statusu ID v rámci jeho prenikania do vzdelávacej politiky USA v spojení s otázkou ústavnosti a ochranou Prvého dodatku Ústavy USA.
