Parental Rearing Style and the Choice of Coping Strategies in Adolescents

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zkoumá vliv stylu rodinné výchovy na volbu strategií zvládání stresu u 127 adolescentů ve věku 15 - 22 let. Cílem této výzkumné práce je zjistit, zda má rodinné prostředí signifikantní vliv na volbu strategií zvládání zátěže v dospívání. Respondenti svou vnímanou rodinnou výchovu hodnotili pomocí dotazníku s-EMBU, zatímco volba copingových strategií byla zaznamenávána pomocí dotazníku CSI-SF. Signifikantní vztah byl nalezen mezi vnímanou rodičovskou emocionální vřelostí a volbou příklonových strategií v dospívání a také mezi vnímanou rodičovskou odmítavosti a volbou odklonových strategií v dospívání. Mezi faktorem vnímané rodičovské kontroly a volbou copingových strategií nebyl nalezen žádný vztah. Kvalita vnímané úrovně soužití byla v pozitivním spojení s vnímanou emocionální vřelostí v rodině a v negativním spojení s vnímanou odmítavostí. Vnímaný rodičovský výchovný styl v tomto výzkumném souboru vysvětloval přibližně šestnáct procent variability ve volbě strategií zvládání zátěže v dospívání. Výsledky jsou integrovány do zjištění předchozích výzkumů v této oblasti.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the influence of the parental rearing style on the choice of coping strategies in 127 adolescents aged from 15 to 22 years. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a significant relationship between the family environment and the choice of coping strategies in adolescents. The respondents assessed their perceived parental rearing practices by using s - EMBU, whereas the choice of coping strategies was recorded by CSI-SF. The significant relationship was found between perceived emotional warmth and the choice of engaging coping strategies in adolescence and also between perceived parental rejection and the choice of disengaging coping strategies in adolescence. No relationship was found between perceived parental overprotection and the choice of coping strategies. Perceived quality of a family life was in positive relationship with perceived parental warmth and in negative relationship with perceived parental rejection. Perceived parental rearing style in this research explained approximately sixteen percent of variability in the choice of coping strategies in adolescence. The results are integrated into findings of the previous studies in this field.
