Parasite fauna of black-stripped pipefish Syngnathus abaster in the lower Danube River

Abstract:

Introdukce nepůvodních druhů může mít vážné důsledky pro původní druhy a prostředí. Může ovlivnit biodiverzitu, narušit funkce ekosystému, způsobit ekonomické ztráty a poškodit zdraví člověka i původních druhů. Nepůvodní druhy musí mít určité vlastnosti, aby úspěšně kolonizovaly nové prostředí a staly se druhy invazními. Jejich zkoumáním můžeme lépe pochopit a zamezit neúmyslné introdukci. Invazní proces se skládá ze tří fází: transport, usídlení a šíření. Někteří jedinci nejsou schopni překonat ani první fázi a hynou už při transportu v balastních vodách, či v jiných vektorech. V souvislosti s lodní dopravou, propojováním toků a rozvojem akvakultury dochází také ke stále častějším introdukcím ve vodním prostředí, mj. i ryb. Transport nepůvodních druhů ryb s balastní vodou je jedním z mnoha způsobů introdukce. Důležitý vliv na úspěch invaze má zbavení se přirozených nepřátel jako jsou herbivoři, parazité nebo predátoři. Nepůvodní druhy se během invaze mohou zbavit svých parazitů nebo si je přinést s sebou. Část parazitů získávají také ve svém novém prostředí. Parazité mají schopnost ovlivnit kondici nepůvodního druhu a tím snížit jeho úspěch při invazi. Jehla černopruhá Syngnathus abaster se rozšířila ze svého původního mořského prostředí do nepůvodních oblastí ústí řek a s balastní vodou dále proti proudu jejich toků. Původní parazitofauna jehly černopruhé z Azovského a Černého moře čítá větší množství druhů něž parazitofauna z nepůvodní oblasti dolního toku Dunaje. V roce 2006 bylo odloveno 30 ryb v Bulharském dolním toku Dunaje, u nichž bylo nalezeno 405 parazitů, kteří patřili do 8 druhů. Jedním z dominantních druhů parazitů byla motolice Orientocreadium siluri, která byla jako jediný zjištěný druh zaregistrována i v oblasti původního rozšíření S. abaster. Ostatní druhy parazitů patřily do skupiny se širokým hostitelským spektrem a vyskytují se běžně u jiných druhů ryb v dolním úseku Dunaje. Tyto parazity tedy jehla v novém prostředí převzala. Většina těchto nových druhů parazitů se však vyskytovala v nízkých prevalencích a abundancích.

Abstract:

The introduction of alien species can have serious consequences for native species and the environment. It can affect biodiversity, disrupt functions of the ecosystem, cause economic losses and harm to health of human and native species. Non-native species possess several characteristics fundamental for successful colonization of the new environments and becoming invasive species. The intensive investigation of species introductions may lead to better understanding and preventing the unintentional introduction of the alien species. Invasive process consists of three phases: transportation, establishment and spread. Some individuals are not able to overcome even the first phase and already die during transportation in the ballast waters or in the other vectors. In connection to the shipping transport, interconnection of river systems and the development of aquaculture, the introductions to the aquatic environment, including fish are increasing in frequency. The transport of non-native species in the ballast water is one of many ways of introduction. Release from natural enemies such as herbivores, parasites or predators, is one of the important factors influencing the success of the invasion process. Non-native species can release all or a subset of their parasites during the invasion. They may also acquire new parasites in their new environment. The parasites can also substantially affect the fitness of non-native species and thus reduce its success in the invasion. The black-striped pipefish Syngnathus abaster has been introduced from its native marine environment to the estuarine and freshwater parts of adjacent rivers, probably with the ballast water. The parasite species richness of black-striped pipefish from the Azov and Black Sea (native range) has been found to be higher then the parasite species richness from the Lower Danube (non-native range). In the Lower Danube, 30 specimens of black-striped pipefish were sampled in 2006. A total of 405 metazoan parasites belonging to 8 species were found. Trematode Orientocreadium siluri was one of the dominant species, found in both native and non-native range. Other parasite species belonged to generalists and common parasites in the Lower Danube and occurred in low prevalence and abundance. The pipefish acquired these parasites in the new environment.
