Lighting as an Expression Medium in an Outdoor Gallery – a Design of a Model Object

Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem Osvětlení jako výrazový prostředek v galerii pod širým nebem – návrh modelového objektu se zabývá možnostmi použití přirozeného a umělého osvětlení v projektech krajinářské architektury s důrazem na jejich výtvarný výraz. V teoretické části se autorka soustředí na prozkoumání možností práce s osvětlením a jejich použití v galeriích pod širým nebem. Druhá část práce se věnuje světlu v Lednicko-valtickém areálu a jsou zde popsány přístupy k osvětlení za dob Liechtensteinů a zhodnocení využití umělého osvětlení v současnosti. Součástí práce jsou i krátkodobé instalace, které pomocí světla vizuálně experimentovaly se specifiky území. Stěžejní část práce je zaměřena na návrh potenciální galerie pod širým nebem, kterou je valtický zámecký park. V rámci zahradně-architektonické studie jsou představeny ve dvou variantách rozdílné formy aplikace světelných scén. Přínos diplomové práce je ve výtvarné ideji moderní interpretace památky zahradního umění, na jejímž základě bude možné ukázat a znovuobjevit ztracené hodnoty místa dle merita rodu Liechtensteinů, posílit pozornost k zahradě v památce UNESCO a díky ní snad navázat na její revitalizaci v blízké budoucnosti.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis with the title “Lighting as an Expression Medium in an Outdoor Gallery – a Design of a Model Object” deals with the possibilities of using natural and artificial lighting in landscape architecture projects, with emphasis on their visual expression. The theoretical part focuses on the exploration of the possibilities of working with lighting and their application in outdoor galleries. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the Lednice-Valtice site, and it describes the attitudes to lighting in the Liechtenstein era and the evaluation of the present use of artificial lighting. The thesis also includes short-term installations, which visually experimented with the specifics of the area with the use of light. The principal part is focused on the design of a potential outdoor gallery, the castle park in Valtice. Within a landscape design study, different forms of application of light scenes are presented in two variations. The contribution of the master’s thesis lies in the artistic idea of a modern interpretation of a landscape/garden monument, based on which it will be possible to show and rediscover the lost values of the place according to the merit of the House of Liechtenstein and to strengthen the attention to the garden as a UNESCO monument, and therefore hopefully continue with its revitalisation in the near future.
