Applicability of coaching as a method of managing people in IT sector

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice využitelnosti koučování jako metody vedení lidí v sektoru IT firem. Cílem práce je analyzovat současně fungující praxi, vymezit, zda je možné koučování v tomto sektoru uplatnit a případně odhalit, co tomu brání. Práce je založena na analýze dat vzešlých z kvalitativního výzkumu -- rozhovorů provedených s manažery několika českých IT firem. Výzkum odhaluje, že existuje několik úskalí, které využívání koučování brání. Obsahem práce jsou i návrhy opatření, které mohou pomoci zjištěné bariéry odstranit. Navrženy jsou i další oblasti, ve kterých by bylo možné koučování v sektoru IT firem využít. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že koučování jako metodu vedení lidí lze do určité míry uplatnit i v tomto velice specifickém a dynamicky se rozvíjejícím odvětví.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of coaching applicability as a method of managing employees in the sector of IT oriented companies. The aim of the thesis is to analyze current managerial work practices; define whether it is possible to apply coaching method in such sector and discover what the possible obstacle might be. The thesis is based on a qualitative data analysis resulting from the interviews conducted with managers of several Czech IT companies. The research reveals that there are several barriers hindering from the use of coaching. Last but not least the thesis contains practicable suggestions which could help to eliminate the previously identified barriers. Furthermore there are some other suggested areas where to use coaching in the IT sector. The final result of this thesis is that coaching as a method of managing people could be applied in a certain extent in this very specific and dynamically growing sector.
