Head injuries in women football

Abstract:

Soccer is one of the sports where there are relatively frequent head injuries. The number of risky situations and possible subsequent head injuries are not sufficiently monitored in women's football in Slovakia. The aim of the work was to determine the most risky playing positions (forward, center-midfield, wide-midfield, center-back, wing-back) in women´s football in various age, which can cause head injury. We compared the number of impacts to the head between the categories of women (over 18 years), juniors (U-18, 15-18 years) and children (U-15, 6-15 years). We analyzed football players who play for MŠK Žilina. Overall, 60 players (20 women, 20 juniors and 20 children) were involved in this study. The method used in this research was an analysis of 12 recorded football matches (4 matches in each category). The number of contacts of the head with the ball (headers), with the opponent's body and the ground were statistically analyzed. Chi-square goodness of fit test was used to assess statistical differences between positions and categories. In addition, we also used a short questionnaire survey (related to history of head injuries), where 141 active players in Slovakia were involved. Overall, in all categories, 347 impacts were examined, the most exposed category was a woman's (over 18 years) with 166 total impacts (juniors 147, children 35). The most risky position was center-midfield (women 26% juniors 29%, children 43%) and center-back (women 22%, juniors 22%, pupils 31%). In women's categories (over 18 years), there were no statistically significant differences between positions. Statistically significant differences between center-midfield (29%) vs. wide-midfield (14%) and wing-back (12%) were found in junior´s category (U-18). Statistical significant differences between center-midfield (29%) and wing-back (12%) were found in the children´s category (U-15). Up to 90% of the women's category marked for the answer that they have not avoided risky situation that can cause a head injury, which also suggest our data obtained from match analysis (juniors 76%, children 18%). In the children´s category, the players during a football match could wear protective helmets that alleviate the impact on the head to remove fear or respect before contacting the head with a ball or duel with the opponent.

Abstract:

Futbal je jedným zo športov, kde dochádza k relatívne častým poranením hlavy. Početnosť rizikových situácií a prípadných nasledujúcich úrazov hlavy nie je v ženskom futbale na Slovensku dostatočne zmonitorovane. Cieľom práce bolo určiť najrizikovejší hrací post (útok, stredná záloha, krajná záloha, stredná obrana, krajná obrana) v ženskom futbale v rôznych vekových kategóriách, ktorý môže spôsobiť zranenie hlavy. Porovnávali sme počet úderov do hlavy medzi kategóriami ženy, juniorky a žiačky. Subjekty výskumu boli 1. futbalové hráčky pôsobiace v klube MŠK Žilina. Celkovo sa do výskumu zapojilo 60 hráčok (20 žien, 20 junioriek a 20 žiačok). Využitá metóda v tomto výskume bola analýza 4 futbalových zápasov pre každú kategóriu (12 zápasov). Sledovanými parametrami boli početnosti kontakty hlavy s loptou, so súperovým telom a so zemou. Pre posúdenie štatistickej významnosti bol použitý chi-kvadrát test dobrej zhody. Pre doplnenie našich dát sme použili dotazníkové šetrenie, kde sa celkovo zapojilo 141 aktívnych hráčok na Slovensku. Celkovo vo všetkých kategóriách bolo 347 nárazov, z čoho najviac utrpela ženská kategória (nad 18 rokov) a to konkrétne 166 krát (juniorky 147, žiačky 35). Najrizikovejší post v ženskom futbale sa ukázal byť stred zálohy (ženy 26% juniorky 29%, žiačky 43%) a stred obrany (ženy 22%, juniorky 22%, žiačky 31%). V kategórií žien neboli rozdiely medzi pozíciami štatisticky významné. V kategórií junioriek boli nájdené štatisticky významné rozdiely medzi strednou zálohou (29%) a krajnou zálohou (14%) a krajnou obranou (12%). V kategórií žiačok boli nájdené štatistické významné rozdiely medzi strednou zálohou (43%) a krajnou obranou (12%). Až 90% hráčok ženskej kategórií označilo za odpoveď, že sa nevyhýbajú súbojom, ktoré môžu spôsobiť poranenie hlavy, čo naznačujú aj naše získané dáta z analýzy zápasov (juniorky 76%, žiačky 18%). V kategórií žiačky, by hráčky počas futbalového zápasu mohli nosiť ochranné prilby, ktoré zmierňujú dopad na hlavu aby odstránili strach alebo rešpekt pred kontaktom hlavy s loptou alebo súbojom s protihráčom.
